Every year on my birthday I decide to do one thing to scare myself. It’s kind of like having a bucket list, only instead of doing 100 things then dropping dead, I do one thing per year and then eat cake.
Sometimes, this works out. It’s led me to do things way outside my comfort zone, like start this blog, train for a bodybuilding competition when I was borderline obese, jump out of a plane, do five minutes of stand up comedy and do “the lift” from Dirty Dancing with my husband for my 45th birthday.

Other years though, I just couldn’t seem to make it happen. Like last year – I wanted to consistently post videos to YouTube. Ask me if I did. Nope!
In fairness though, I did write and release my second historical fantasy novel, To Condemn a Witch, in August and it became an Amazon bestseller. Then I spent September – December selling it and my other book To Rescue a Witch at local markets and Celtic festivals. That didn’t leave much time for me to figure out editing software or trying to figure out what to talk about on camera in the first place. Plus, once you start a legit YouTube channel you have to keep it up forever. That didn’t seem like a fun challenge, but it did seem like an overwhelming job, and who the hell wants another job?
So this year’s birthday scare, I’m going back to the basics. What’s something scary (outside my comfort zone) but incredibly fun and doesn’t require a long term commitment? Then it came to me….
I want to be a Ghost Tour guide. Not forever, just for one glorious night.
Ghost tours are so much fun! They mix history with dark, creepy paranormal tales, which clearly I’m already into. I love telling stories, and teaching interesting historical trivia along the way. Now, the big question is where will I give a ghost tour?
In a perfect world, it would be New Orleans. The French Quarter is jam packed with spooky stories about ghosts, vampires, and voodoo. My family and I must have gone on at least three or four of them and always learned new things. One day I’m going to write a story set in New Orleans, just so I can take a trip there again for “research”.

Closer to home, Austin has some pretty interesting macabre stories, including a link to Jack the Ripper, so I might be a ghost tour guide there. Plus it might be easier to find someone willing to let me do it for one night. I’m not sure what people’s hiring policies are – it is a business after all.
But I’m already excited thinking about making it happen.
I’ll keep you posted.
Stay healthy,
Lisa 😉
P.S. – Here’s my witchy series if you’re into dark fantasy with some spicy scenes!
