Can Cooking Relieve Stress?
I’m a little stressed, can you tell?
Or perhaps I’m just a tad OCD right now.
Have you read Julie & Julia? Or maybe you saw the movie? It was about a frustrated writer in a dead-end job who decides to use cooking as therapy as she cooks her way through Julia Child’s, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”
According to an article in NY Daily News:
Cooking can be a good de-stressor because:
- Cooking is so absorbing it makes you temporarily forget whatever you are worried about
- The process of making something from scratch can foster creativity and give you a sense of accomplishment
- Stress can leave you feeling numb, but cooking activates all five senses, making you feel more alive
Have you read the blog ShesLosingIt.net? It’s about a frustrated writer/novice bodybuilder named Lisa who actually hates cooking, but has to get back on the clean eating meal bandwagon lest her trainer makes her do punitive unassisted chin ups. Just kidding! My trainer would make me do squats. And I’m actually cooking for another reason.
Anyway, I have enough food for maybe 3-4 weeks, so if there is a power outage tomorrow I will cry. I might cry anyway because…well…I’ll tell you at the end of the month.
Do you find cooking relaxing? How do YOU get rid of stress?
Lisa

Baking is my therapy. You can easily tell how stressed I am by the number of recipes that I post on my facebook page. Last week was a particularly rough one.
I love baking too. Sorry you had a stressful week. Here’s to this week getting better!
I hate cooking, but it does de-stress. That’s a ton of food! I kind of wish our fridge was filled to the brim like that. It would be super easy to find something to eat.
Yay! A fellow cooking hater!
I have effectively removed any excuses about not being able to eat clean. Pretty sneaky, huh?
I cook a lot of family meals ahead of time. It makes for less stress in the next week. 🙂
Good thinking. I probably should have been doing this all along. Hmm.
I’ve been cooking a ton lately. Check out my blog, IG, FB… its all pics of the clean meals I have made. Maybe I have been a bit stressed? But I have also been having a ton of fun in my kitchen. 🙂
Your cucumber drink looks really yummy! Will have to reblog some of your other recipes 🙂
Wow 3-4 weeks of food?! That’s inspiring. I might have to have a cookout of my own next weekend. I haven’t done one in a while. Thanks for the inspiration.
You’re welcome. Happy cooking!
I too find that cooking let my mind off things. I hope the stressful time pass by quickly for you. Good luck.
