Are You Psyched for the Winter Olympics?
The 2014 Winter Olympics started today in Sochi, Russia. While there’s a lot to be excited about, including a dozen new events, there seems to be a dark cloud over the snow crested mountains.
President Vladimir Putin was hoping that the games would be a giant infomercial for the new Russia, much like the summer Olympics were for China, but it’s not exactly working out.
Foreign journalists have been denied visas or evicted in some cases and there is a decree banning all protests against the regime and it’s human rights issues during the games.
Two suicide bombers have attacked since December, the US team was told not to wear their colors outside the games, and then there’s the targeting of the homosexual community at large. Some European countries are keeping dignitaries home to protest. The U.S. has politely filled our official delegation group with gays and lesbians. So there.
But hopefully the games will stop being about political things and the real stories will be about the athletes.

I love the Olympics. It’s the only time Hockey can be seen on my television.
