Countdown to Audition Video

One of my Hey I’m Turning 40/New Year’s Resolutions is to enter a local pole fitness competition in the Novice division (that’s fancy for “people who have no idea what they’re doing”) and/or Masters division (that’s fancy for “40+ year old chicks”.)  In case you are wondering, pole fitness is not just for strippers.  It’s being considered as a new sport in the Olympics and there will be an inaugural competition at the Arnold Classic this February.

Today was very exciting.  Why?  Because I just finished learning the choreography for my audition song!   Each competitor has to complete six compulsory moves demonstrating strength and flexibility.  The spins need to be done both on static and spinning poles, and the dance must include at least 25 seconds of floor work (dance moves not done on the pole.)

Today I learned the carousel spin, pole sit, and pole tuck hold, which are a lot harder than they look!  So between now and February 16 (the date I’m filming it) I’ll have to practice a lot.  If I get selected, I will compete May 2nd in the Capital of Texas Aerial Championships.  And if I don’t get selected, at least I can tell people that I learned how to do carousel spins, pole sits, and tuck holds for my 40th birthday.  It will make for interesting conversation at the next PTA meeting, don’t you think?

How about you?  Have you ever taken a pole fitness class?

  1. I keep seeing pole fitness work out DVDs on TV and wonder if they are any good. Cuz all of THIS isn’t going to do it in a classroom setting with other people to witness it. Nopes. Plus I don’t want my kiddo to see and then tell everyone who will listen about how “my mommy works on a pole” because I don’t feel like explaining how it is just for the exercise. 🙂
