What was I Thinking????

I make a lot of goals for myself.  Some of them are crazier than others.

My newest goal, to enter the Fitness division at the Texas Shredder in April, seemed like a perfectly reasonable challenge.  Figure poses plus a 2 minute dance/gymnastics routine that includes push ups, straddle hold, high kicks and side splits.  What a perfect goal for my 40th birthday!  What could be easier, right?  (And did I mention that I can’t dance or do gymnastics?)

Well check out pictures of the winners from the 2012 IFBB North American Championships:

I’ve been working on my flexibility for two months now and still can’t do a split, and these women are like Ninja cheerleaders from Circque du Soleil!

Of course, my saving grace here is that these women are at the top of the amateur level and I will be, well, at the most amateur amateur level there is.  Also, because this division is so challenging, not many people enter it, so in theory I could just show up and drink a beer on stage and still walk home with a trophy…at least on the local level.

But how cool will that be?  Not to drink beer on stage – I mean to be able to do at least some of those modified moves by April???  Plus, can you imagine me just randomly showing up at some yoga class at 24 Hour Fitness and bust out a back handspring?  Ha!  In your face, Ms. Downward Facing Dog!

Anyway that’s what I’m excited/nervous about these days.  How about you?  Do you have any crazy fitness goals you’re working on?

  1. I love reading your posts. . You’re so funny, but I bet your gonna be awesome! I can’t wait to read how it goes. So excited for you!

  2. April is still far away and I am sure that by then, you will be able to do all the things you need to do in the Fitness division. Just keep going, just look at how far you have come already.

  3. This might sound really REALLY crazy, but a good friend of mine recently had to improve her gymnastics and had to create a routine for herself as well (movie audition) and started taking pole dancing classes to help her prepare. As it turned out, she dramatically improved her flexibility and was able to do some pretty fancy floorwork after about 2 months.

    1. Thanks for the tip. Funny you should mention that…I’m actually taking a beginner’s pole dancing class at an all women’s studio. It’s a lot of fun and, yes, it is helping with flexibility. Did your friend get the role in the movie?

      1. Oh excellent! I felt a little strange as a new follower just throwing pole dancing out there, so I’m glad to know that wasn’t offensive. 🙂

She did not get the role, but she’s one persistent gal so I’m sure she’ll be on the big screen soon.
