Do You Lean or Jump?

The Lean
The Lean

Are you the type of person who jumps into things, or do you prefer to lean in slowly?  If you are the latter, The Lean, A Revolutionary and Simple 30-Day Plan for Healthy, Lasting Weight Loss, by New York Times bestseller Kathy Freston, is a book you may want to read.  It gives 30 new healthy habits to try out one day at a time.

Well researched and easy to read, Ms. Freston offers suggestions on diet, exercise, and self-analysis techniques to combat weight loss from a variety of planes.

A word of warning to carnivores:  if you are completely opposed to vegan views you might want to skip a few chapters that deal with it’s anti-animal and animal by-products consumption philosophy, which can seem a tad overzealous.  For example, one of the exercises is to switch from cheese made from cow’s milk to plant-based cheese and she wrote,

“And by the way, can we talk about what it really means to eat cheese?  You are consuming the breast milk of a 1,500-pound animal!  I mean, imagine a friend of yours inviting you to her house for pizza by saying, ‘Come on over for dinner; I used my breast milk to make some cheese for the pizza, and I think you will really like the taste of it!'”

But that aside, it was a very informative book, and I’m looking forward to trying some of the new habits she suggested.  Her very doable advice ranges from eat more fiber, to try a super food smoothie, to do guided mediation exercises.   She also includes recipes at the end of the book.  If you are interested, it is on sale now for $15.99.

What about you?  When you are trying a new exercise or weight loss program to you prefer to jump in or lean in slowly?

  1. Have you read Skinny Bitch? I’m not completely opposed to vegan views, but I was turned off to that book because it had a lot of that anti-animal stuff, too. I just wish I had known that before buying it because it got pretty heavy. This book sounds worth checking out if it’s not all about that stuff. 🙂

    1. I haven’t read Skinny Bitch yet, but hyper-passionate views about anything tend to turn me off. The Lean had a mostly well balanced tone and discussed topics beyond just eating a plant-based diet.

  2. I opt to lean within the slow means. i’m patient with wherever i need to travel. Too quick can bring forth an excessive amount of skin or loss of muscle. I even have received my new educational program for successive eight weeks. therefore i’m excited.
