Get the Nail Out of Your Head

So Henri and I were having this argument because I told him something that was bothering me and he kept saying, “You just need to _________” and I was all, “Stop trying to fix the problem!  I don’t need you to solve anything; I’m just venting.  See, this is why I just need to talk to my girlfriends and not you about these types of things.”

The next day we went to church at the Austin Stone and the preacher, Matt Carter, was talking about the different ways men and women communicate and he showed this YouTube video.  (Side noteHow cool is it that I go to a church that shows YouTube videos?)

“It’s Not About The Nail”

We were both laughing so hard we were crying.  I guess when you put it in the context of a nail in the head, it kind of makes sense to take some action rather than just “vent” about it.

Likewise, a lot of times we like to vent about our health.  “I wish I could lose 20 pounds.”  “I wish I went to the gym more consistently.”  “I know I shouldn’t eat this, but….”  So let’s take a cue from the video above and rather than complain about our problem, let’s fix it.Nailed it

  • If you feel uncomfortable with your weight, Take Action TODAY.
  • Clean out your pantry. Remove the chips, cookies and soda.
  • Start drinking water.  Drink eight (8), 8 oz. glasses of water per day.
  • Eat Clean.  There are a plethora of meal plans to chose from. I favor “eating clean” which is avoiding processed foods and instead eating lean protein (chicken, fish, egg whites,) whole-grain complex carbohydrates (old fashioned oat meal, brown rice, sweet potatoes,) vegetables, (fresh is best, avoid canned veggies,) and a little healthy fats in the mix (TBSP olive oil on your salad, 1/4 avocado with your chicken, etc.)  Talk to your doctor, a dietician and/or a nutritionist and find what’s right for you, your body and your personal fitness goals.
  • Exercise.  You don’t need an expensive gym membership to be fit.  (Evidence?  Look at pictures of people from the 1700’s.  They look pretty fit and gyms didn’t exist.)  Walking is free and fun.  Running requires good sneakers and a water bottle.  You can get exercise DVDs from your local library or watch YouTube videos for body-only exercises.  If you can afford it, gyms are great and good trainers are AMAZING.

How about you?  Is there something you’re venting about rather than fixing?

P.S. – I took the nail out of my own head, so to speak, and talked with the person about the issue I was having, and (big shocker) we resolved the problem.

    1. It tough filtering out everyone’s voice just to focus on your own. It’s your life and you should strive for your own goals, not someone else’s, even if they do mean well.

  1. Im still stuck on the salt and mustard sandwiches. Yes i do zone out when my wife speaks, but I really think she needs to quiet herself and get the nail out, using the pliers in my garage, which i will get for her. But really I am like the guy from homeland- Im hiding some secrets in the garage, he he he.
