Coregasm

In the month between New Years and my birthday, I decided to prepare for the bikini contest on my own.  I figured the Texas Shredder was in April, so if I started in February that would give me enough time to get in shape.  (Hahaha – what comedy. )

I didn’t have a diet, sorry, “meal plan” to follow other than cutting down junk food and alcohol and trying to eat salad every other day.  As far as exercise, I went to the classes offered at 24 Hour Fitness every morning at 5:30 a.m.  I did cycling Monday/Wednesday, Cardio Boot Camp Tuesday/Thursday and Body Pump on Fridays.  I lost 5 lbs. (go me!) and heard my favorite fitness quote thus far:

“Pain is just weakness leaving your body.”

Well flash forward to now and there is an exodus of weakness coming from my thighs and butt because I am in some serious pain.  Sitting is not an option.  Walking doesn’t seem very promising either.  I guess doing 400 walking lunges a day while holding a 60 lb. bar over your shoulders will do that to you.

Today I’m running sprints on the treadmill.  I have a good view of ab equipment known as the Captain’s Chair.  I used to watch Tattoo Arm Man on it all the time but I haven’t seen him in the gym since spring break.  Maybe he moved?

After reading an article by Jennipher Walters in Shape Magazine online I’m now looking at people’s faces when they do the ab exercises.  Apparently there is a phenomenon known as “Coregasm,” if you can imagine.  See below:

“Once thought of as a bit of a rare occurrence or even an urban legend in the blog world, exercise-induced orgasms (EIO) or exercise-induced sexual pleasure (EISP) are quite real and quite common.   Published in a special issue of Sexual and Relationship Therapy, researchers administered online surveys to 124 women who reported experiencing exercise-induced orgasms and 246 women who experienced exercise-induced sexual pleasure….

In the study, EIO was associated with a wide range of types of exercise including weight lifting (26.5 percent), yoga (20 percent), bicycling (15.8), running (13.2 percent) and walking/hiking (9.6 percent). The most common exercise for EIO though? Ab exercises. A total of 51 percent of women surveyed said they experienced an orgasm in connection with abdominal exercises, giving the EIO nickname “coregasm” — which many bloggers use — some credence.”

I knew from personal experience that exercise increased my own sex drive (see: You Again, which lead to Oops Baby?) but I didn’t know this was widespread.  I spoke to some of the moms about this (you’d be surprised what we mommies talk about at the park – “Fifty Shades of Grey” anyone?) and they too confirmed that their sex drive increased with exercise.  But an orgasm during a work out?  How cool would that be?

I can honestly say I’ve never experienced a coregasm doing ab exercises.  The only thing I feel doing planks is weakness leaving my body.   But this article gives me something to look forward to…Yet…

Yet…

Who the hell wants to have an O in the middle of a crowded gym?

  1. Ok…..so I’ve noticed the 400 walking lunges comment twice now! Do you do them all at the same time…..before/during/or after your workout or spread it out throughout the day and totally unrelated to your workout?

    1. I do 400 lunges 5 days per week before my cardio. First it was just the lunges, no weight. Now I’m up to 60 lbs. on my back. This is all part of what I fondly refer to as Operation Ass Lift.

  2. Awesome article… Now not to pick, but from experience I can say that it’s probably because your not working hard enough. It’s something about maintaining the pressure during extreme crossfit workouts that get me going… Believe me, it’s become an excepted practice at the Box…
