Weigh In #4 – Panic Attack

  March 2012

It was weigh in/measurement day and I was already in a panic.  Everyone in the gym training for the Texas Shredder in a week looked amazing; I realized that I still had a long way to go before looking as fit as they did.

I lost another 10 pounds, plus two inches in my waist and my body fat decreased another 5%.  You would think this would make me happy, but I was focused on how much more work needed to be done.

“I have to lose 10% more body fat before the competition!  Oh my God, Daniel, I’m never going to be able to do that!”

“Stop freaking out.  I’ll tweak a few things.  I think we’re going to have to cut your cardio down to three days a week for a time.”

I rolled my eyes and exhaled loudly in disapproval.  (Note to self:  Do not roll your eyes at Daniel.)

“Did you just roll your eyes at me?!  When you do stuff like that it makes me think that you don’t trust me.  You have to trust me.  I know what I’m doing.”  (Unlike you, he implied.)

Here’s what I thought:  “It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s that, OK – I DON’T TRUST YOU!!!  I’LL NEVER LOOK LIKE THOSE BIKINI CHICKS ON STAGE!!!  Why are you so blasé about this?!?

Here’s what I muttered: “I trust you.”

He wasn’t buying what I was selling and shook his head in annoyed exasperation with me.  “Look how far you’ve come since you’ve been training with me!  You lost almost 25 pounds!  You went from 29% body fat to 21% body fat in two months!  You’re weeks out from your competition.  Of course you’re going to be ready for this competition!”

(Note to self: Do not question Daniel’s authority as a trainer.  This just pisses him off.)  “Well, should I cut the calories on my diet?” I sulked.

“No.  I want you to follow the plan I gave you.  It’s not your job to worry about how to reach your fitness goals; that’s my job.  Just follow the plan EXACTLY as I gave it to you.”

So I guess I’ll just shut the hell up now and do what I’m told, cause even though I’m the boss in the workplace looks like he’s the boss in the gym.  Damn it.

  1. I so understand your frustration. I was in a weight loss contest and despite losing nearly 10 lbs and 17 inches, I only lost .08% in body fat, which is still nearly 50% which just makes me so sad.
