Blogger Challenge #1: Describe Your Pre and Post Workout Routine

My pre-workout routine used to be:  Wake at 5 a.m., weigh myself, put on workout gear, take supplements (but do not eat,) drive to gym, exercise for 1 1/2 hours, shower, be home by 7:15 a.m.

Just when my routine was so consistent you could set your watch to it, life went ahead an moved my cheese and now I have to switch everything.  If you read my previous post, Who Moved My Cheese, you would know that I HATE CHANGE!

Change #1 – Rylee has to be in the car to go to school by 7:15 a.m. so that means I either have to wake up even earlier (!) or workout when little Henry is in nursery school in the morning.  But little guy is only in school until noon, so if I work out after dropping him off at 8:30 a.m. my entire “free” time is sucked up by the gym.  So guess who’s waking up at 4 a.m. now…

Change #2 -I’m not allowed to weigh myself daily.  This was a rule Daniel initiated about six weeks before my last competition because I was getting too crazy over how much I lost or didn’t lose.  Of course, I didn’t listen to him and continued to weigh myself daily.  And of course he knew this because he is the Fitness Santa Claus and knows things.  So he told me if I kept weighing myself my cortisol levels would increase from stress, which would make me fatter.  The scale has resided on the top shelf of my closet ever since.  Damn you, Daniel!

Change #3 – Must Eat.  I have to keep my weight up so I can grow lean muscle mass.  That means I have to do cardio on a full stomach.  Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE to eat, but not at 4 a.m., and not knowing that it’s cutting into my workout time.

My post workout routine is pretty much the same:  Shower at the gym, speed home because I took too long in the shower, eat, take more supplements, get the kids ready for school.  (I used to try to get a blog post out at this time, but now that waits till later.)  The only other change here (but I kind of like this change) is that now that Rylee is older she likes to help me cook meal #2.

What about you?  What are your pre and post workout routines?

FYI – Today’s topic is the brainchild of Fitness Cheerleader , who has decided to do another Blogger Challenge this month. (Thank God, because clearly I’m not so good at coming up with my own stuff!)  I’ve met a bunch of people starting up blogs and I’d like to encourage you to join this writing challenge if your themes include health and fitness.  It’s a lot of fun.

  1. Impressive routine! I’d definitely give up the free time that Henry is at nursery school and workout then 🙂 I had to get up at 6:15 for my tri today and lemme tell you that was hard (the waking up part, the tri wasn’t so bad).
