My World Changed Today

6:50 a.m.  I meet Daniel at Metroflex Gym.  It’s one of those hardcore bodybuilding gyms with no A/C or heat.  The women are all training for bikini, fitness or physique competitions.  And remember Duda from San DiegoYeah, the guys all look like that.

“We’re going to work on your legs and back today,” says Daniel over the rap music blaring through the speakers.  We move to the leg press.  I have to lift one foot at a time.  It’s crazy hard for me to do, so I talk to get my mind of the weights.

“Little Henry starts nursery school today,” I say.

“Aw, you’re going to cry, aren’t you?”

“Yeah,” I blush.  Of course I’m going to cry, he’s my baby.  “Rylee starts school next week.”

“Kindergarten?” he asks as we move to the Smith machine and he loads up the weights.

“She skipped a grade, so she’s starting in 1st grade.”  I’m so proud of her.  He smiles and nods.  He knows how stressed out I was about her during the first competition.  I’m glad everything worked out.

“Those are some really big milestones for you,” he says.

Boy, he’s not kidding!  My typical days, which I should have posted like 4 days ago as part of the blogger challenge, are now forever changed.  I meet Big Henri at the nursery school so we can take pictures.  Little Henry is so excited.

And, of course, I start to cry in the parking lot.  Henri gives me a hug.  “This is good for him,” he says.  I know he’s right.  But Henry was my Velcro baby.  He was attached to my hip for the first two years of his life.  In the last six months he’s all about Daddy, but when the chips are down he wants me.

At least I have some new things in my life to look forward to.  I’m bodybuilding.  And blogging.  Henry and I worked out a new schedule:  I will work at the building 3 days per week and do bodybuilding stuff (training, tanning, practice posing, etc.) the other 2 days.

I know it’s a new beginning, but a mom can get a little misty, right?

How about you?  What are your thoughts about the kids going back to school?

  1. Aw, Lisa, I got all teary eyed just reading your post. It is so hard, but you will adjust. You have a lot of folks out here supporting you. If you need us, you know where we are :-).

  2. That is so great. How did Henry like his first day? Where is he going? I got a call from one of Sophia’s teachers today. She was just checking in to make sure we are all ready to go. It is getting real and I don’t like it. I know she has been at ACE for two years but somehow this seems different.
