3 a.m. Workout Routine
We are staying with Henri’s cousin, JJ, in Phoenix, Arizona. She’s the coolest person and she and I stayed up late last night chit chatting about everything, so I decide to set my alarm for 5 a.m. instead of 4 a.m. to get my first road trip workout in. I’m not going to the gym, but doing my own thing instead.
My kids are sprawled out on the floor at the base of our bed and I try not to trip over them. I put on my sweat pants and tank top and mix up some protein powder that I got for free from the Adela Garcia competition.
Then, I hit the road.
It’s about 88 degrees and humid already, and it’s pitch black outside. As I have no sense of direction whatsoever, I decide to run to the main drag and just run straight for 15 minutes and then turn around and run back.
I like running through people’s lawn sprinklers. The spray tickles my face and cools me down. I like looking at the houses and seeing the fountains each complex has at their entrance.
When I get back to JJ’s house I do the following workout:
- Walking lunges, dipping down twice in the middle of the lunge. 2x up and down the street.
- 20 pop squats x3
- Cross over squats, 15 each leg
- Curb squats, 15 x3
- 50 push ups
- 1 minute plank, 1 minute side plank (each side)
- 1 minute spidermans
After my workout was done I made myself some oatmeal and wondered why all the clocks had the wrong time on them. Hmm, maybe JJ forgot to do the spring ahead/fall behind thing? My cell phone said it was a little after 6 a.m.
Guess what? My cell phone was on Texas time! I was actually up at 3 a.m.! Sorry, JJ’s neighbors. Please note that while I am a crazy exercise person, I’m not THAT crazy on purpose!

That hilarious lisa!!! 🙂 I love that workout idea! Lately i’ve been doing a lot of “on my own workouts” that look a lot like yours. another fun one is running hills. find a large hill and run up it 10 times and at the bottom of each hill do 10-15push ups. fun times 😉
Which hill do you run? Do you ever run in the Hill Country? Maybe we could run together sometime.
Girl—I don’t have time to drive all the way to the hill country! I WISH!! 😉 Would love to run together sometime, but I stay local for time sake. There is a pretty good sized hill in my neighborhood that I run hills on.
Oh just because you work, have 4 kids, homeschool and workout at the gym, what do you mean you don’t have time to run in the Hill Country? LOL!
That is too funny! I don’t think I’ve ever worked out that early, but insomnia got me out on a 5AM run once. Normally, I’m hibernating like a bear ’til the sun’s out 🙂
Trust me it was an accident. I am crazy…but not that crazy!
That’s so funny! Enjoy your trip!
Thanks! We are having a great time so far.
