Spartan Sprint? HELL to the NO!

My friend, Alexis, just did the Spartan Sprint in PA.  I’m watching the You Tube video and messaging my other friend while watching:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idrzYvPCV30

Lisa:  My friend did the Spartan Sprint and I’m watching the You Tube video.  I’m not sure I want to do this race after all…

R:  It is hardcore

L:  Holy shit!  I’m only 3 minutes into the video and I’m scared.  OMG!  They are carrying buckets of stones now.

R:  Be afraid, be very afraid…but do it anyway, because you can 😉

L:  I do things without researching them and now I know why

R:  It’s better not to know some things

L:  These people are crazy.  They are walking on tree stumps now.  Ok – they are running through mud pools while a guy sprays them with a hose.  Not cool, hose guy…Swimming under barrels in a lake now

R:  But doesn’t that seem like so much more fun than running on a machine inside a gym?

L:  THEY ARE PICKING UP CEMENT BLOCKS AND WADING THROUGH MUD NOW!

R: That is a bit crazy.  All these fit people are making me sleepy.  Nite nite

L:  Crawling under double barbed wire.  The treadmill is boring but never tied to kill me.  Nite!

  1. (Sorry if this posts twice, there was some weirdness logging in last time I tried to post it)

Nooo! You need to do this! Just take your time and go at your own pace. You can totally do this. Just a heads up, the PA Spartan Sprint, despite only being 5 miles, was one of their hardest races of the year.

Whatever race you are signed up for is going to be easier than this one. Unless you signed up for the Spartan Beast, then you are screwed. They have 3 levels of racing: Sprint, Super, and Beast. The Sprint is supposed to be the easiest which is why I signed up for it, but then they changed it to be a ”mini-beast” instead. Yeah, thanks for that.

If you are nervous and unsure if you want to get into obstacle course racing, then you may want to start with a Warrior Dash or a Run For Your Lives event first. Those are significantly easier than the Spartan series. Basically the Spartan and the Tough Mudder are the two OCRs that will kick your ass. The rest of them tend to be more for fun than survival 😉

I wish I was closer to you so I could run one with you and show you how much fun they are!
