Pain in the Butt

Last night I worked out with my friends Obidia and Jenn.  It was a leg day workout.  More specifically, it was a leg and booty workout.  It’s good to do these workouts with friends because some of the exercises look so ridiculous they should not be done alone in the public setting of a gym.

Have you ever done a bridge?  You lie on your back and slowly raise and lower your booty off the ground while keeping your head and shoulders on the mat.  Add pulses to said bridges and it looks like you are having marital relations with the air.  Add into the mix that for whatever reason no music was playing in the gym last night, so every grunt and giggle the three of us made was magnified by like a billion.  (Also, two of us are New Jersey natives, so when we laugh we get REALLY LOUD.)

Anyway, my ass hurts today.  I had to take an Epsom salt bath this morning just to have my legs function properly.  But the Jacuzzi tub bath is now in my mother’s bedroom, since she took over our master bedroom when she moved in since it was on the ground floor.

“Why are you taking a bath?”  she asked.

“Because I had a leg workout last night, Mom.”

“Why did you do that?” She was truly perplexed.

“I was meeting my friends; it was fun!”

“When I meet my friends we go shopping or eat cheesecake…”

I don’t think my mother will ever fully get me.  I mean I guess I could explain the feeling I get after a really tough workout is akin to what she feels when she finds out the expensive shirt she really loved (but got sold out) suddenly appears on the Nordstrom’s clearance rack in her size and half priced, but that would take too long and I only had 15 minutes to soak before taking the kids to a party at Pump It Up.

That’s the good thing about friends.  Whether your shopping or snacking or doing heavy squats in a crowded gym with no music, it’s nice to do it with people who get you.

How about you?  Do you ever workout with friends?
