Where Do I Find an Organic Turkey?
One of my goals for this month is to get as many organic foods as possible on the Thanksgiving table. Sure, I can find apples and general produce at the store, but how about an organic turkey?

Growing up, Lee Turkey Farm was literally a block away from my home. Oddly, we always bought our bird from Shoprite. Maybe not so oddly; my mother hated to cook. We ate instant mashed potatoes, Stove Top stuffing and packet o’ gravy. Once my brother and I moved out she and my dad just starting going to a restaurant for the holiday. (She really hates to cook.)
I like cooking, but I’m not very skilled at it, because, well, look at who my mother is! Anyway, if it doesn’t break the bank I’d like to buy a farm fresh turkey and as many organic whole foods as I can afford for the big day. In another post I’ll do the cost comparison.
This weekend I plan to do a search and discover mission at the local farms around Austin. There is a cool website called LocalHarvest.org that lists all the farms in your area. It covers all 50 states, not just Texas. In the meantime, here are some fun pictures I took with my kids and my brother, Dennis, when we visited Lee Turkey Farm in New Jersey this summer.

How about you? Do you shop at farmers markets?
