Dropping Out of Fitness Competition
Of all the ways I envisioned spending my 4th of July weekend, a hospital in New Jersey was not one of them.
My mother and I are very close and I call her every couple of days, so when I called her on Tuesday and she neither answered nor called me back, I thought it was weird. I called again Wednesday around lunchtime and still she did not pick up. When I called back at 8 pm and still no one answered, I panicked. I called my brother, who still lives in New Jersey, and he drove over to her house.
She had collapsed in the middle of the night and was on the floor…for the past 24 hours. The ambulance came and I was on the first flight out of Austin. The good news is that she is back home now recovering; the bad news is while they were testing for one thing they ended up finding something else, so I’m going to be here for a while to care for her. I’m saying a little prayer that everything turns out fine.
Obviously, this means I won’t be able to do the fitness competition this time around, but the promoter has been very gracious: refunded my ticket money and said I can transfer the entrance fees to another show later in the year. So, I guess I pressed “pause” and not “stop” on my goal.
I’ve already found the farmers market and stocked up on fresh produce and meats, so I’ve been cooking clean recipes for everyone. My mom is getting back to herself. She said, “You’re gonna make me eat that healthy s***?”
There is a local gym called Retro Fitness that I can go to for $5. I manged to get in once. When things settle down more I look forward to some weight lifting stress-relief.
For now, I’m just so happy she is alive and safe and that my husband is holding down the fort with the kids back in Texas.
Talk to you soon,
Lisa
Moms take priority! I too am on Mom-care-duty in MS. Good for you Lisa.
Prayers! And hugs.
Thanks 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom but glad she is doing better. What she said is the same thing my mom would have said. She refused to eat when she was in the hospital and acted like a child. It was a hard thing for me. We have to do what’s best though.
Oh my goodness. Your poor mom. I send my well wishes to her speedy recovery. I’m sure with your clean and healthy dishes she will be on the mend. God bless.
So sorry about your mom. I’m glad she’s safe and doing ok and I hope everything turns out ok. Keep us posted.
I hope your mother gets well real soon!
Thanks so much 🙂
