I Feel Bad About My Neck But I’m Staying Positive

I feel bad about my neck. Let’s start there. I’m a pretty positive person, but the neck thing that happens to us 50+ women is such a randomly weird and humbling experience. My post-menopausal body has shifted body fat to all the wrong places. I often feel like I’m eating the same things but my body has changed the rules of engagement without giving me the new instruction manual.

Like wine.

I’ve never been a big drinker, three glasses and I was out, but now I drink half a glass with dinner and I’m tired. Where’s the fun in that?

Over a weekend I can easily put on 3-5 pounds that will take me 3-5 weeks to lose. What gives? My muscles are constantly tight and it’s not like I’m doing anything different. My eating and exercise patterns are mostly the same.

So, I’m just going to make peace with it. There are 40 days left until New Years. I won’t do a bodybuilding competition, but at least I can do things to feel better about myself and this loveable frumpy body of mine. It’s served me well for over half a century and that’s pretty damn cool. For the next 40 days I’m going to be nice to my body and post positive things on social media, and not just about food and exercise.

My new fitness goal

I’d love to fit comfortably into my favorite red business suit dress. It’s been years. Will I be able to button it up and zip it by New Years? I don’t know, but it’s something to strive for.

P.S. – My novel, “To Rescue a Witch” is going on sale 11/24/24 – 11/28/24. If you or someone you know likes historical fiction/ fantasy fiction, now is the time to shop. It’s got over a hundred positive reviews on Amazon and is a Next Generation Indie Book Award finalist. Here’s a quick summary:

It’s 1739. An abused girl accused of witchcraft must be rescued by a man married…to an actual witch.
