Getting Back on Track

We’ve survived September!  The kids are back to school and there is a frenzy of activity, but I personally like the structure and the more energized pace that the fall brings.

Each month I write out my goals and then check back in at the end of the month to see how I did.  My goals for September were as follows:

  1. Do 100 lb. squat by the end of the month
  2. Get organized
  3. Practice morning gratitude

I’m happy to report that I lifted 115 lbs!

As far as getting organized, it seems like clutter is the bane of my existence.  The method I’m following right now is based on the book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo.  She says it takes about six months to de-clutter your entire house.  I’m two month in and so far I’ve done the following things:

  • Clothes (closets and dressers) for everyone (me, Henri, Rylee and Little Henry)
    Closet before

    My closet after
  • Pantry.  I’ve finished this.  It was so satisfying.  Also, you would think I was a baker with the amount of frosting tubes I had.
  • Books
    Books before

    Books after
  • 1/2 done with Toys (we got through a lot, but there’s still a lot more we can donate).

  • 1/2 done with papers.  There’s so much paperwork in my house between two businesses and home school stuff.

I’m going to stick with the program and just keep going through everything until it’s done or I pass out and get buried in a pile of clutter.

My final goal was to practice daily gratitude.  Each morning when my alarm went off I thought of one thing I was grateful for, which definitely helped me start my day with a good mood.  At dinnertime I had the kids list three things that they were grateful for too and I noticed that when we did this there were fewer arguments and less teasing, so I’m going to keep this habit up.

Overall, it was a good month.  How about you?  Did you meet your goals?  Did you make progress?

Lisa 😉
