Pole bites

If you were to look at me in a bikini right now you might think I’ve been reading 50 Shades of Gray or something.  Why?  Because I’ve been practicing pole inverts for my upcoming competition and I’m banging myself up!  The euphemism for this is called “pole kisses” but “pole hickey” is a more realistic description because I’m covered in bruises.

One of the more common aerial inverts is to climb the pole twice and then do a move called The Chopper, where you tuck up your knees and thrust your pelvis back, flinging your legs over your torso.  You are supposed to catch the pole in your “sweet spot” which is your waist.  (Yeah, I know you were thinking it meant a different location…)  Anyway, I seem to be catching the pole on my ribs because I have no waist.  I’m more of a human Sponge Bob.

Another side effect of pole fitness is that I have some serious callouses on my hands.  With bodybuilding you wear gloves, with pole it’s all skin and mine’s getting torn up.   Oh well.  Battle wounds 😉

The competition is six weeks away, which means I’m getting nervous.  My novice song has been selected and I’m really excited about it because it suits my personality.  I’d tell you what it is , but this is a competition after all, so I have to keep it a secret for now.  Don’t worry – I’ll make a YouTube video of it when it’s done and figure out how to pay royalties so you can actually hear the music on the video (!!)

Saturday is going to be a song day.  I’m going to listen to a list of songs to see which one I want to choose for my master’s routine.  That’s the one where I have to do the six compulsory moves, an aerial invert (aka the move that’s been pole kissing me) and I have to split everything between a static and a spinning pole.  I still can’t believe I made it into the finals!

I love this sport.

How about you?  What’s new with your fitness journey?

Lisa 😉

    1. It’s incredibly fun and much harder than it looks. You’d probably have a blast if you tried it.

  1. Ugh, gotta love all the blisters and callouses. Good luck training for your next competition. I’m looking to get back in the saddle. After a huge move 11 hours away. I’ve been slacking in the fitness realm. I am really hoping now that I have gotten settled in to get back into it. I’d love to get into a Crossfit at home type workout but will probably end up joining a gym again.
