6 Active Things to Do on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day can translate into a lot of calories whether you’re in a relationship (champagne, overpriced dinner, chocolate) or single (wine, overpriced Ben & Jerry’s, chocolate) so why not fight the trend and do something active?

For Singles

  • Throw a Girls Night Out Party.  When I was in college and going through a bad break-up I had an anti-Valentine’s Day party with my other single girlfriends.  We all wore black, brought pictures of our ex’s and played pin the tail on the ass, and watched/made fun of romantic comedies.  (But not Dirty Dancing.  Some things are sacred.)  Or why not take the party out?  Go dancing and enjoy the freedom that comes with being single!
  • Take a Kickboxing class.  Feeling angry?  Nothing helps get out the I-hate-my-ex frustration like kickboxing.  Visualize your ex as you punch.
  • Get a Massage.  Pamper yourself!  “Me time” is a wonderful thing.

For Couples

  • Go Ice Skating.  There’s something fun about having to lean on each other for balance, and kissing by the fireplace is romantic.  Plus a packet of hot chocolate is fewer calories than a box full of truffles.
  • Hike Somewhere Scenic.  Nature has a calming effect on the soul.  Why not enjoy it with your partner?  Plus it’s quiet so you really get a chance to talk to each other, something you can’t really do at the movies or in a loud restaurant.
  • Your Body Is a Wonderland… In addition to helping couples feel connected, love making is a great workout.  Kissing = 68 calories burned per hour, Giving oral sex = 100 calories burned per half hour, Having sex = 144+ calories burned per half hour.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

    1. How did I know you would like that one? You could show that to your wife and say, “I’m just thinking of you and your fitness goals, honey…”
