New Breast Cancer Treatment

This year October 13th marks the 5th anniversary of Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.  There have been significant treatment advances in the past five years that are helping to prolong the lives of women with metastatic breast cancer, which is an aggressive form of the disease.

Today I spoke with Oncologist, Dr. Marc Citron, Director for Cancer Services at ProHEALTH Care Associates in New York City and Sharon Bozentka, a mother of three recently diagnosed with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, which is form of breast cancer characterized by aggressive growth and a poor prognosis.  HER2-positive affects approximately 25% of breast cancer patients.

Here they discuss the disease, and a new FDA approved treatment called Perjeta.

The treatment worked.  Sharon is currently cancer-free and has no evidence of disease.  If you know someone with HER2-positive breast cancer, please let her know about this new treatment option.

Stay healthy!
