Zombies vs. Tough Mudders
I have a dilemma. I want to do a short obstacle race this year, but can’t decide if I want to do the Run For Your Life zombie race in December or the Tough Mudder in October. Here are my musings about the pros and cons of each race.
Tough Mudder:
- As a mother of two small children I have to censor myself all day, so I like that the race name sounds like cursing.
- I hear mud is good for your skin.
- You get to jump over fire. That’s badass
Cons –
- It’s in Houston
- I’m scared of the obstacles
Zombie Run:
- Zombies
- It’s in Austin
- Zombies, right?
Cons –
- It’s in December. It seems like Halloween blending into Christmas.
What are your thoughts? Have you run either of these races?

I ran “Run for Your Lives” and loved it! It’s still got obstacles and was a lot more physically challenging than the Warrior Dash because you’re pacing yourself with the obstacles etc but then have to sprint from the zombies. I had a blast.
I heard it was a lot of fun. Hope you survived the zombie attack!
If your looking to do a “short” obstacle course race, the Tough Mudder would not be my go to. Tough Mudders are normally 10+ miles long
Hmm…did not know it was 10 miles. I guess I should research these things, huh?
I haven’t. But my trainer has and moves them!
They sound like they are a lot of fun.
I would go for the Tough Mudder because December can be so cold where you live. October is still a nice Autumn temperature. And yes, it’s so close to Christmas as well the other one.
Good point. I don’t do cold very well. Hmm.
