What Starts with Chiggers and Ends with Mud?
What starts with chiggers and ends with mud? That would be my week thus far.
You know how everyone has this idea or concept of what Mother’s Day will be like? I bet those images did not include going to three different pharmacies because ChigaRid was sold out.
Earlier in the week my son had his final MMR shot because he will be starting kindergarten in the fall. He wasn’t feeling well, so I kept him home for a day. Friday, he came home from school with red bumps on his ankles, so I figured he stepped on fire ants, another friendly Central Texas companion. Sunday morning his little body was covered in horrible red welts that looked like chicken pox and I totally panicked.
“OMG, Jenny McCarthy was right! My son has the measles!” I hunted down a live person at the doctor’s office to be told flatly, “Chiggers.” “Excuse me, what?” “He has Chiggers.” For those of you who do not live in Texas, Chiggers are nasty little mites, you pretty much need a microscope to see, that like to hang out on tall grasses and weeds, and bite the bejesus out of you, or in this case, my four-year-old son.
Whew, Jenny McCarthy is still wrong. All is right with the world. But now I had to hunt down ChigaRid because there was a run on the medicine. CVS, Walgreens and Walmart were sold out. How does Walmart sell out of ChigaRid? Also, the line at the pharmacy was an hour long and someone kept farting. I couldn’t figure out if it was the fat cowboy in front of me or the little old lady behind me, but someone was taking their fiber that morning. Happy Mother’s Day!
My computer was infested with spam so it had to go to be fixed (which is why I haven’t been blogging), my phone decided to upgrade itself without my permission and now it rings all funny and flashes spontaneously, had a freelance writing deadline that kept me up till 2 a.m. last night, have compliance documents AND taxes due on Thursday (Happy 10th Anniversary!), the 2nd grade musical was yesterday, nursery school field day is on Friday, both kids birthday parties are this weekend and the Spartan Mud Run on Saturday, which I have not trained for.
On the upside, Game of Thrones is pretty good right now.
How about you? Feel free to answer any of the following questions:
- Did you ever have a holiday go in a wildly different direction than you thought it would go?
- Any tips for Chigger bites?

Oh man, I just cried for you…or maybe I laughed until I cried at your blog post. Those pharmacy lines are dangerous places.
No kidding! LOL
