My Pole Dance Show
The pole fitness competition is in less than 3 weeks! Yikes! Panic attack!
FYI – this is a picture of one of my dance teachers, Brenna Wilder, who won the competition last year.
All right…
I think we can all agree that I won’t be winning anything based on my dance skills alone. (Read: My Pole Dance Report Card.) This is where you, dear readers, come in. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come see me perform at my pole dance competition.
Why is your presence vital? Because I just found out that in addition to the real winner in each category, they also give out a “crowd pleaser” award. So that means if you come to the competition and cheer loudly for me, I will be walking home a winner. (And again, no pressure here, but we know I won’t be winning for dancing…)
My categories are Novice (people who have no idea what they are doing) and Masters (old chicks) and both compete on Saturday. The Novice is at 5 pm (we open the show after the judges are introduced…gulp!) and the Masters is at 6:15 pm. There are lots of other divisions after that and then the awards are presented at 9:30 pm.
The competition will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Marchesa Hall and Theater, 6226 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin, TX 78752.
Tickets for General Admission on Saturday night are $20. Here is the link to buy tickets: Capital of Texas Aerial Championship Tickets.
(There is also a competition Friday night, but that’s for silks and trapeze divisions. I’m at the entry level pole dancing stuff on Saturday.)
“But Lisa, why should I see a pole dance competition?” Well, if you’re a guy Ima assume I had you at “pole dance competition.” If you are a woman, I think you might have a lot of fun watching something completely different. First, understand that this is pole fitness, not some sleezy stripper club. This is a sport that is in the running to be in the 2016 Olympics, so there is a big effort to remove the stigma and focus more on the dance and gymnastics qualities. There is no nudity and if any clothing is even attempted to being removed the contestant will be disqualified. Most costumes will be a variation of a bikini, and the bottoms cover more than my posing suits do at a bodybuilding competition.
That said…it is pole dancing and not Bible study, so if you are ok with watching strong women perform artistic dances that are a little sexy and fun, than it might be a great date night thing to do with your significant other.
Also, it makes for more interesting water cooler conversation at the office Monday morning than “I ate at Red Lobster.” Just sayin’.

I would come if I lived in your town. I love to spectate sports, and I consider pole dancing a sport. There is strength, agility, and coordination involved. Best wishes.
Thanks 🙂 It definitely is more difficult than it looks. I’m having so much fun.
