Come Meet Me!
Looking for a little inspiration? If you live in Austin, I’ll be doing a discussion and book signing today of my memoir “She’s Losing It!” with the local No Excuses Mom group and I’d love to see you! The host gym, Infinity 8, will be leading a workout after for anyone who wants to get their sweat on.
You might look at my website and think that I’m just naturally fit, that I love eating vegetables and that exercise is easy for me. It’s not. And four years ago it was even tougher.
Specifically, this was where I was at:
- I was overweight and had been for the better half of a decade
- After having kids my body changed drastically. My stomach had loose skin folds in odd places, my breasts looked like two empty wallets and my butt seemed to disappear entirely. I don’t know where it went, I don’t know why it went, but suddenly my cute bubble butt of my 20’s had been replaced by an ass-leg blend of my late 30’s.
- At any given moment I was tired. Sometimes I would wake up tired and wonder how that was even possible.
- Money was tight. My husband and I owned a real estate business and it took every single penny to keep it going. This meant my purchases on pre-packaged foods, fitness programs and exercise do-dads that promised a svelte body in 10 days seemed like a frivolous waste of cash, especially after they didn’t work.
- Suddenly my go-to diets stopped being effective. Was it my metabolism? My age? The fact that I had children? Nothing helped.
- Exercise alone did nothing. I ran a half marathon and didn’t lose a single pound. That frustrated the hell out of me.
- My yo-yo diets grew more bizarre and unhealthy. If there was a celebrity cleanse on the internet I tried it. I also tried diet pills, water pills, fat-free-gluten-free frozen dinners, lots of diet books and intermittent fasting. They all worked for a week but as soon as I stopped I immediately gained back all the weight plus two more pounds.
- Women’s magazines made me feel bad about myself. They made everything seem so easy but it just wasn’t for me. I’d see “no excuses” and want to scream, “DON’T YOU SEE ME TRYING? I’M TRYING AND IT’S STILL NOT WORKING!”
- My husband stopped finding me attractive, I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the frumpy middle aged woman staring back at me and I just sat in the car in the parking lot of my daughter’s nursery school sobbing and praying to God, “Please, fix me.”
If you recognize any of these elements in your own life, then just know this book is for you. You’re where I was four years ago, and at today’s book signing I’ll tell you some secrets I learned about how to overcome obstacles in your life so you can be the healthy person you desire to be.
