How Are Your Resolutions Going?
A mere two weeks ago we stood in the Arctic breeze and celebrated the dawn of a new year. For many of us, that meant the annual ritual of writing out resolutions, specifically to either lose weight or get fit.
It’s been two weeks…
How are your resolutions going? If you are kicking butt and taking names, keep doing what you’re doing. If you slacked off/forgot to start, that was yesterday, this is today.
Go back to your list, and really assess how you are doing. My favorite quote is from Theodore Roosevelt and it goes like this: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
No access to a gym? Try online training, an exercise video, or just putting on a pair of sneakers and walking up and down the stairs in your building.
Does the idea of switching up your entire diet all at once, cutting out sugar, processed foods (and joy?) freak you out? Then start small. Instead of eating a bag of chips every night while watching TV, eat half a bag, then half a bag every other day, then maybe just once a week.
Challenge your assumptions. One of the biggest fears my clients have about “eating clean” is that it will taste bad. If you stand back a bit, it’s kind of mind-blowing but processed food only came into existence in the 1900’s. For thousands of years before that we all ate clean because that was the only option!
A common principle among nutritionists is to say, “If your grandmother wouldn’t recognize it as food, don’t eat it.” That’s a good start if you’re starting slow. Would Grandma know what the hell Cheetos are? Or why they seem to glow? If not, move on to something recognizable like an apple.
Whatever your resolutions, get back on track and work towards your goals.
And speaking of that, here are my resolutions:
How am I doing? This month I’m really focusing on the first goal, to encourage other people to get fit and healthy. To that end I’ve created a fitness challenge. Anyone who participates gets a chance to win a copy of my book. Thanks to everyone who has posted on my page and tagged me in pics on your own social media. I love hearing from you! If you haven’t done it before, no worries! That was yesterday, this is today. Just post pics and hashtag it #ShesLosingIt and #SLIMethod. Let’s encourage other people to get motivated.
Earlier this month Bowflex had an inspiration event at the Nebraska Furniture Mart in Dallas. Together with Tom Holland we led a group workout and gave out copies of our fitness books. It was an amazing experience, and there is more news to come about Bowflex….
Finally, this month Westdale – a real estate group – started up their corporate wellness program using my SLI Method. We took measurements and set some goals. Can’t wait to see the progress!
As far as the other goals – learning hip hop and writing my next book – I’m happy to report I still have 11.5 months to get that done. Yay.
How about you? How are you doing on YOUR resolutions?
Lisa 😉
