iFly Austin

One of the coolest abilities that superheroes have is that they can fly.  If you’re a mere mortal and parachuting out of a plane isn’t your thing, iFly Austin is the place for you.

My family took a trip there last week to check it out.  (Full disclosure here, they gave me two passes for free and we bought the other two.)  It was a wild ride.

Before you get to go into the wind chamber you have to go through training, which consists of a movie demonstration and everyone in the class practicing the sign language of flight, which makes sense because you can’t really hear someone speaking to you with wind blowing in your face.

The next part involved us getting suited up in a jumpsuit, goggles and helmet and we also put in disposable earplugs.

Then came the fun part:  We went into the chamber one at a time.  My seven-year-old son, daredevil that he is, of course volunteered to go first.  He loved it!  So did my husband.  My nine (soon-to-be-ten) year-old daughter, Rylee, went in next.  From the moment she went in until the moment she left, she was screaming her head off.  When she got out she had such an adrenaline rush she wanted to go back in.  I thought the instructor was very good and patient with my kids.

My own flight was a blast.  Like daughter, like mother because I couldn’t stop screaming either.  Also, I had some serious drool action going on.  It took me a little bit of adjusting my arms before I was really airborne (hence why I’ve never been cast to play a superhero in the movies.)  We also paid an extra $10 per person to do a really high flight.  It was totally worth it.

They do birthday parties, business events, Father’s Day/family outings and individuals too if you just want to try something new on date night.  As a homeschooler, I also liked that they offer educational programs based on the students’ age.

Two flights for one person starts at $69.95 and the rates go up from there.  Each ride lasts about a minute and a half.  I definitely recommend doing the high flight for the second ride if you want an adrenaline rush.

FYI – iFly Austin sponsored two flights; I paid for the additional flights.  All opinions are my own.
