NuWave Oven Pro Plus

Are you a foodie gadget person?  Honestly, I’m more of a low-key dry fry person myself, but when NuWave contacted me to review their new Oven Pro Plus, it sounded like a pretty interesting product.  It’s a countertop oven that uses a combination of infrared, conduction and convection heating to cook food.

When the package arrived I was a little nervous because it was so big.  (Insert ‘size does matter’ joke here.)  But the real test for me would be how well it cooks.

Perks

The main benefits to the Oven Pro Plus are:

  1. It cooks up to 70 per cent faster than a conventional oven and does not require preheating.  Digital programing allows you to adjust temperature from 100°F to 350°F in 1° increments.
  2. This technology also seals in the nutrients of the food without using any extra oil or fat when cooking.

Let’s Test It

I decided to make garlic chicken breasts.  I defrosted them (although it says you can cook them frozen too,) sprayed each side with just a little butter substitute spray, added a tsp minced garlic and sprinkled with salt, pepper and parsley, then put them on the rack at the 3″ setting.

The instructions said to cook chicken 11-13 minutes each side, so I went with 12 minutes, and did not preheat it at all.

They browned nice and evenly, and when I cut open the thickest part of the breast it was cooked all they way through.  Sometimes when I’m baking chicken in a conventional oven I have to cut the breasts open and let them cook longer.  So it definitely did save me time.

The best part was how they tasted: juicy.  Those of you who follow my blog know that my daughter is a really picky eater and she actually ate all the chicken on her plate and said it tasted good.  That alone makes me want to cook with the Oven Pro Plus again.

Dinner is served…and liked!

Clean up was easy, and it is dishwasher safe, so that’s a plus too.  Since it’s an oven, I did make sure to tell my kids not to play near it while it was cooking and I needed to use pot holders to take the lid off when I was turning the chicken.  It’s bulky, especially when you take off the lid to flip the chicken, but it is also portable, so it can be brought somewhere if you are helping to make a holiday dinner and need to heat up some extra dishes.

It retails at $149.95.

Overall, I would recommend this product to people in the market for a quick way to cook up a healthy dinner.  For more information about NuWave, please click here:  NuWave Oven Pro Plus
