Hunger Games vs. Divergent
Pop Quiz: Which teen-girl-saves-the-world movie is your favorite?
A) The Hunger Games/Catching Fire
B) Divergent
This is a tough one. Hunger Games’ Katniss is a naturally born badass killing small animals with her bow and arrow to feed her family. I really love the politics of the movie and how complete the established imaginary world is.
But then there’s Divergent. The choosing ceremony reminds me of a cross between Brave New World’s petri dish Alpha/Gamma, etc. and Harry Potter’s hat sorting scene but the factions don’t seem as defined as the world established in Hunger Games. On the plus side, Triss has that shy-girl-turns-powerhouse going for her and every mom in the crowd will cheer on Ashley Judd as the total badass mom (which I aspire to be.) I like that they see strong women in their 40’s. And speaking of the number FOUR….Yummy!
OMG Divergent wins because this guy is hotter than Superman, and that’s a lot coming from me. And he’s a trainer in the story. Why can’t he train at my gym?
Favorite line: When Triss asks him about his tattoo and he says, “Would you like to see it?”
Yes.
(P.S. – my husband is totally cool about me writing this post because he was talking too long about some singer chick the other day.) How about you? Which movie do you prefer?

I agree with you about Theo James FOR SURE. But I always kinds of liked Hunger Games better with the books and movies. It’s too bad Thor’s brother (what’s his name?) isn’t in more of the scenes of the movies.
