Target Thigh Gap Fail

Target was in the news recently because some did a really bad photoshop job on a teen bikini model. They made her arms, hips and crotch thinner to create more of a thigh gap.

Hmm.

Of course, Target apologized and removed the picture.  But why do they feel they need to photoshop a teenage model in the first place?  She’s a MODEL!  If they want to perfect a model’s thigh gap what do they think about the thighs of their regular customers?

Trends change as to which body part is in vogue – Marilyn Monroe’s voluptuous breasts, Jennifer Lopez’s round booty, Kate Moss’s impossibly thin frame.  When did thigh gaps become sexy?  And why?

There are Tumblr sites dedicated to pictures of skinny legs, jokes about starving yourself to get the gap, and hashtags like #pro-ana  (which is pro-anorexia, if you can imagine.)

Maybe this trend will eventually fade away and be replaced with something equally as random, like sexy elbows.  Hey, look at her elbow, it’s so 90 degrees.  I want that!
