Barbie’s Got Back

Women around the nation can cheer because Barbie finally got a reality check.  Mattel, maker of the famed fashion doll which debuted in 1963, has introduced three new body types: tall, petite and curvy.

Barbie has made attempts to better reflect women several times throughout her history.  In 1965 she became an astronaut and she even ran for president three separate times.  In 1980 black, Latina and international Barbies came into being and today there are over 22 different skin tones and different hair textures among Barbie’s BFFs.

Fun fact:  In 1963 she came with a diet book that said, “Don’t eat.”

You’ve come a long way, baby!  I’m glad that Mattel made this change to reflect society as it is today.  Now we just need to upgrade Ken…

What are your thoughts about the new Barbie dolls?
