American Grit – Meet the Lumberjack Mark Bouquin

Only three weeks until the premiere of American Grit!  I already introduced you to Brooke (read her story here: Meet Brooke Van Paris) so now I wanted to introduce you to one of the most memorable Guys of the Grit, Mark Bouquin, otherwise known as the Lumberjack.

Mark is EXACTLY what you might imagine a lumberjack to be.  He is very tall, size 16 shoe, lives in a log cabin in the snowy woods (for real), has a beard, is partial to wearing plaid shirts, and yields an ax. 

Here is a little bit about him, in his own words:

So tell me a little bit about yourself…

I’m 26 years old with a baby on the way!! I’m an arborist and also a timber sports athlete!! I love being outdoors and enjoying everything nature has to offer.

Why did you want to do American Grit?

I wanted to do American Grit to challenge myself and to show the world that just because I may not look like I’m in shape, I still am, and I can hang with the big dogs.

What is your favorite quote and why?

My favorite quote is ‘Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.’ This is my favorite quote because no matter what happens to you in life, good or bad, what you take from the experience – what you learn from it and how you react to that experience – is what’s important. Take every experience and make something positive come out of it.

What is the best fitness advice you ever heard?

Do what makes you happy. You have one life. Enjoy it!!!

Other Fun Facts:

• I have a twin brother, who is also a lumberjack.

• I like to call our dog, Jazz, Jazzicorns because she has golden eyes like corn.
• I have a baby on the way!!!

Final thoughts?

Your life is your life. Live, love, laugh and make the best of every situation. Don’t let all the negativity around you bring you down. Choose to rise and live your life to the fullest.
