What’s Working?

Do you ever look at your body (or life) and say, “it’s just not working”?  I’m in the process of doing this now to figure out what is going well and what needs some tweaks.  Here are some updates:

Cotton Ball Hate

For my kids to earn computer or TV time they have to either do chores or extra homework to earn cotton balls.  Each cotton ball = 5 minutes play time.

Status:  Open rebellion from my daughter.  She said she’s no longer talking to me and HATES the cotton ball thing, as evidenced from her note, Exhibit A.

I said, “That’s fine, you don’t have to talk to me, but since writing in your journal earns three cotton balls, I will consider your note a journal entry,” and I deposited them into her jar.  She didn’t know what to do with that.  Score 1: Mommy.

Eventually both kids have come around and I double the value of the point system on weekends because, honestly, when they are watching TV I get to catch up on other things.  So overall I’d say this is working.

What’s My Weight Again?

At the beginning of the month I started a food journal to get myself back on track.  It’s been helpful to hold me more accountable to myself for food choices and it’s also good to show my trainer what I’ve been eating so he can make adjustments to my macros.

What’s my weight again?

I’ve been frustrated with my metabolism.  I’ve been eating clean, haven’t cheated, have been exercising consistently and forced myself to get more sleep, but my body’s not shaking the 10 lbs. of sympathy weight I put on after my mom died.  I know it’s a process but God, I wish there was a pill that would just magically make me a size 1 and allow me to eat chocolate chip cookies at the same time.  And it would only take a day.

Bicep Babies

My gym rat, sorry – gym bunny – friend (she doesn’t want to be called a rodent) Obidia and I have been in a month long contest to see who could make the most bicep gains.  She looks amazing.

I’m lifting heavier but I don’t feel like I’m anywhere near beast mode. That’s why Ima get a spray on tan.  If you can’t tone it, tan it.

Pole Punches

My competition is in 3 1/2 weeks.  Yikes!  You know how I belong to two gyms?  (FYI – I belong to two gyms.)  Well I belong to three (3) pole dance studios:  ATX Pole Fitness, Bon Bon Barre and Inner Diva Studios.  I’ll write a separate post about the competition later this week and I’ve been compiling a plethora of pole blooper videos for your entertainment pleasure, but I’m having a lot of fun with it.

Although you wouldn’t tell that from my face.  As my one dance teacher, Brenna, said, “you look constipated when you dance.  Stop that.”  Also, when I do pirouettes I keep hitting the pole.  And the other day I thought I might lose my lunch because the spin pole went way too fast. But other than that, it’s been great.

So there are my updates.  How about you?  What are you working on?  Is there anything you need to switch up?

  1. Dear Lisa,
I figured if I ate absolutely perfectly, the rest would all fall into place. NOT… As I’ve gotten older, if and or when I regain, it seems harder to lose. Robin is the BEST trainer and challenges me physically, monitors my macros diligently and encourages me consistently to get sufficient sleep and water intake. Additionally, even the gentlest of aberrations in my food plan take a couple of weeks to atone. For Father’s Day, the only variation of my program was that we went to Jason’s Deli instead of my salad meal; I had a large raw salad with tomatoes, carrots, and red peppers, but also 9 Texas toast (olive oil sprayed “croutons” – about 450 extra calories) and 2 TB of lowfat honey mustard dressing (about 180 calories). I gained 1.5 pounds! I’ve trained myself to eat clean and told myself that I must be different. Other people can cheat, but I can’t – my body doesn’t handle it well! I’d love feedback….

    1. Hi Viv,
I find that it’s harder for me to correct food mistakes now that I’m getting older too. I miss my 20-something metabolism. *Sigh*
But, you are right, Robin is a great trainer and I trust him too 🙂
      Lisa
