Feel Better About Your Body Right Now

About two months ago I was feeling really down about my body.  After two years of living a very healthy lifestyle, my mother’s diagnosis of cancer threw me into an emotional tailspin and I calmed myself down with “food”, and by food I mean junk food.  What made matters worse was that I knew EXACTLY what to eat to stay healthy and chose the junk food anyway, because emotional eating makes no sense.

I felt out of control and guilty…and shame when I had to buy bigger jeans.  To make matters worse:  I’m a fitness blogger!  I’m supposed to have all this under control, right?  I didn’t know how to pull myself out of this bad cycle of self-soothing with food and then beating myself up after.

One night, when I was feeling particularly down and I was crying about everything going on in my life, I decided to get out of bed and just go on the elliptical machine in my garage.  I wanted to find anything that would make me feel better immediately and I stumbled upon this:  29 Celebrities Who Will Actually Make You Feel Good About Your Body.

Below are the quotes that made me feel better in that moment and helped me get a handle on my body image issues.  If you are having a low body image moment, I hope these quotes help you too.

I liked those quotes because they reminded me what I already knew to be true: a woman is more than her dress size.  Over time when I was feeling stressed and powerless, particularly on my mother’s chemo days, I started reaching for my phone to do Google searches for quotes to make me feel better instead of the three pack of chocolate chip muffins I had been reaching for the previous weeks.

My mother is still going to go through whatever cancer throws her way, but I’m not going to let the sadness I feel drag my health down too.  I finally feel like I’m getting back on track.

And if you are feeling a little low, I hope these quotes gave you a little pick-me-up.  How about you?  What are your favorite quotes?

  1. I do not have a particular quote that I like for this topic but what I do is focus on the positives in my life and I will go on Pinterest and search inspirational quotes to help me through that tough thought moment that I am in. Stay strong, you are beautiful inside and out and you will be back at it when your moral is a little higher. These things take time. You need to stay strong, you may stumble along the path, but you can dust yourself off, when it is time and get back on it! I hope I could encourage you some!

  2. Ah, Lisa. You’re not alone. What will make a difference for you, though, is knowing what to do to get back on track, plus all that fabulous muscle you’ve built up. I, too, have gained enough weight this year (because of emotional eating & drinking) to almost need to buy new, bigger clothes, but I’m getting back to good habits. And you know what? I’m OK with it. We’re only human after all. What matters is how well we treat ourselves & others, not so much what size dress/pants we do it in. (Getting old is great for perspective, hah.) Hug yourself, & go do some squats.
