My Crystal Ball Must Be Cloudy – 3 Things I Never Saw Myself Doing

techbrarian.com

My high school reunion is in 10 days and never in a million years did I think I would be doing the following things 20 years later:

1.  Living in Pflugerville, Texas.  Seriously, it sounds like a made up place from a Dr. Seuss book, doesn’t it?  “All the Pflus in Plugerville…”  I studied abroad in London, was a classical actress in gritty New York City, tried my hand at becoming a movie star in La La Land, how the hell did I end up in Pflugerville, Texas?  And yet, I love it here.  It’s my home. And my friends here are really my friends with no strings attached.

2.  Entering a Bikini Competition.  My friends in high school used to call me Feminazi.  I thought a bikini competition was the epitome of misogynistic entertainment and all the women involved were stupid.   After being in an actual competition I discovered the truth:  the bodybuilding poses are equal opportunity entertainment (men make goofy stances and wear posing suits too; just not bikinis) and the women I met were (and are) remarkable.  I’m sure there are some snobs in the mix, like anywhere, but I met women recovering from cancer, teachers, mothers, some who (like me) lost a lot of weight, others who were rail thin their whole lives and started strength training only recently.   But I guess you never really understand anything when you’re on the outside looking in.

3.  Listen to Christian Rock in My Car.  Yeah.  I said it.  When I’m not listing to 2Pac at the gym or Dora’s Sing Along with my kids, I actually purchased, and like, one (1) Christian rock CD from Austin Stone.  But I will admit to rolling up the windows so other people won’t hear me playing it.

Other things are no shocker to me whatsoever.  Being married with two kids, flipping houses, even blogging does seem relatively within character of my younger self.  I guess the person you are at 18 is different from the person you are at 38 and all you can do is hope you improve over time.

How about you?  Are you where you thought you would be?
