Dear Carbohydrates

Dear Carbohydrates,

I love you and miss you very much. The protein and vegetables that my trainer keeps wanting me to eat are the red-headed bastards of my meal plan. I hate them. Complex carbohydrates, you are my love child with a politician.

I promise we will meet again after the bodybuilding competition, and it will be just like the old days, but better because I appreciate you more. I promise, brown rice, that you will get your own special bowl and I will eat you with a spoon, because God forbid I miss a single grain that falls through the gap in the fork. Sweet potatoes, dear, sweet, sweet potatoes, if I could cuddle with you I would. Pasta, bread, cereal…it’s just too much, I can’t even go there. It reminds me too much of my old fling with sugar.

I’ve been dreaming about you, complex carbs, and sugar and chocolate too. Last night I dreamed that I was in Tomorrow land at Disney California with my family and at the end of the Space Mountain ride Arnold Schwarzenegger was flexing his bicep while my kids jumped up and down asking to take pictures of it. Somehow we were transported to my mother’s house in New Jersey and she had a bowl of Easter candy on the table (specifically those tin-foil wrapped chocolate eggs from Hershey’s). peter-rabbit-chocolate-bunnyI thought it would be a good idea to stockpile these delicacies into my jacket pocket so I could make chocolate chip pancakes with them at a later date, while also sampling them to make sure they tasted as good as I remembered, and that’s when my husband took out his phone, snaped a picture of me eating and said, “I’m sending this to your trainer!”

I woke up and punched him for narking me out. He was slightly confused, but not really because this is like the 6th show prep I’ve gone through and he knows the food dreams come around 2 1/2 weeks prior to competition day.

Carbohydrates, I never realized how important you were for making me feel happy and remembering things. Also, I never realized how important you were for making me feel happy and remembering things.carbs-ecard

Soon, we will meet again, as my competition is two weeks from now. It will be a rough two weeks because not only are you missing from my world, but my cardio is increased to twice a day, my calories are cut, and my strength training is still heavy, I have to practice posing, and my trainer just added an extra daily dose of 320 ab exercises because he is mean.

Oh complex carbs, don’t ever forget me!   As I never, ever forget you.

Love,

Carb-depleted bikini competitor

P.S. – But other than that, competition prep is going great.
