Scottish Independence?

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Huegan in Outlander – on Starz

Are any of you following this story?  After 307 years of being part of the United Kingdom, Scotland votes today to decide whether or not it should become an independent country.  Voting privileges have been extended to 16 year olds.  To qualify you have to have British, Commonwealth, Irish or EU citizenship and live in Scotland.

Thus, J.K. Rowling, British author of the Harry Potter series, and pro-union supporter gets to vote, but Sean Connery, Scottish actor in the James Bond movies from the 60’s, and an anti-union/pro-Scotland supporter, does not get to vote because he lives in the Bahamas.

Sadly, the extent of my Scottish history knowledge comes from the movie Braveheart (before Mel Gibson went crazy) and The Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon.  (Side note:  Outlander is now a series on Starz and was worth the wait!)  But as an Irish lass, I’m really excited to see how this turns out.

However it turns out, I’m glad the citizens will have their day at the polls.  And with that, I will leave you my favorite song by Scottish Band, Big Country.

P.S. – If you’re doing the #toobusychallenge today’s task is to play a sport today that gets your heart rate up. 🙂
