Itty Bitty Booby

Did you ever the ask the Universe for something and actually got a response?  I did and got a double whammy reply.

First, if you never met me, I want you to visualize this:  You are at the gym.  You look over in the treadmill area and see a svelt-looking woman in totally cute booty shorts, a sassy tank top showing cleavage, with perfect hair that is in a sporty-yet feminine ponytail with matching headband.  Now look to your left.  I’m the one behind her with a goofy bun hairstyle doing walking lunges in  sweat pants that don’t quite reach my ankles, my husband’s gym socks, and a ratty old sweatshirt that says “Jersey Girls Don’t Pump Gas.”

I won’t say that my friends and gym rat buddies make fun of my attire all the time, just most times.  I believe my one friend said it best: “Lisa, you’re 40, not 80.  Stop dressing like a granny.”  Ouch.  Gosh, I just wish I could look cool for once…

Second, I started running longer distances this month in preparation for both my upcoming fitness competition and to build up my endurance a little before the Spartan Run.  In doing this, I discovered that running for more than half an hour left me a little beat up because my girls kept trying to knock me out.  At one point I just started hugging my arms across my chest to stop the friction.  Gosh, I wish running didn’t hurt so much!

The Universe saw the situation, heard my cries for help, and delivered.  I got an email from the manager at Lululemon that she liked my blog and wanted to know if I’d like to try out their runner’s bra called the Bracer and also wanted to give me a new outfit.  SCORE!!!!

Goodbye Frumpy!  Getting fitted by Mary Gossen

I went to the downtown Austin store off 6th and Lamar and had a lot of fun trying stuff on.  The manager, Mary Gossen, was really helpful and I got a totally cute outfit.  (My friends at the gym will be very confused.  Heh heh.)

Then it came time to try on their sports bra called the Bracer.  It comes in three sizes:  Itty (A cup), Bitty (B-C cup) and Booby (D-E cup).  (The size names cracked me up.)  Anyway, it’s designed to be super tight so you get that support you need when you’re running longer distances.  It’s made with special material that actually heats up to your body temperature and molds to your girls, acting as a underwire.  Also, since it sticks to your curves, you’re not going to walk away looking like you have a uni-breast.

The toughest part was getting it on.  I had to lean over and adjust myself.  They weren’t kidding about it being form fitting!    I ended up switching from my usual size 34 to a size 36 and that made all the difference.  It was still snug, but I didn’t have to worry about the girls trying to escape out the side.

When I brought it home I discovered another trick, that it’s easier to roll the sports bra on from the bottom up, get everything in place, and then hook the back.  Once it was on, though, it was divine.  I ran about 8 miles and everything was held in place.  It was really comfortable and made my run pleasant.

It retails for $68.  The typical Lululemon shopper probably wouldn’t blink at the price;  for me it would be worth the expense if I were running a half or full marathon.  For those kind of events I splurge on good running shoes so I don’t hurt my feet, and now that I’ve tried the Bracer, I would buy another one to cut down on all that bouncing.

Also, I’m going to buy another pair of those capri pants because they make my butt look cute, and you can’t really put a price on that, can you?

Thank you Universe.  And thank you, Lululemon!  For the record, I received no compensation for this blog post, just the Bracer to try out and the outfit.  All opinions are my own. 🙂

How about you?  Do you splurge on things like good shoes and sports bras for long distance running?
