Hemp Protein Giveaway!
Today I sampled some hemp products from Manitoba Harvest. (Go ahead…ask me if I tried it at 4:20…) I was interested in trying these out because I get questions from readers wanting to enter bodybuilding competitions seeking recommendations for non-animal based sources of protein during their show prep. Hemp Pro 70 may be a good option.
Hemp protein is a complete, vegetarian protein that is easy to digest and includes Omega-6’s and Omega-3’s, fiber, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and other vitamins and minerals. 
First I tried Hemp Pro 70, the protein powder. If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I have the culinary palate of the average 8-year-old, so I was really nervous about trying this. The directions said to mix 4 tablespoons with your favorite beverage in a shaker and enjoy, so I mixed it with orange juice and ice. It kind of tasted like a green smoothie, which is to say it mostly tasted like my orange juice, but there was also a slight vegetable flavor to it. This is probably something I will slip into my kids’ smoothies (in smaller quantities) to get more nutrition in their diet. (I’m sneaky like that.) Here is the nutritional information.
Then I tried the Hemp Hearts, which are raw shelled hemp seeds. I put them on my salad and they are actually really tasty. They taste kind of like pine nuts. And in case you are wondering (like I was) something along the lines of, “Will I fail a drug test if I consume Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods?” the answer is: No! Here is the direct quote about this from their literature: “Manitoba Harvest products contain under 10 parts per million Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Yep – less than 10 parts per million, which is like trying to find a ‘needle in a haystack.’ Manitoba Harvest products will NOT cause a psychoactive effect nor will our products cause a false positive drug test.” Whew!
