New Breast Cancer Treatment

Everyone knows someone with cancer; I know two people right now with breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society,  “Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.  The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36.”  (Source:  American Cancer Society)

To say that treatments such as chemo are “harsh” is putting it mildly.  That’s why I was excited to learn that a new treatment for women with an aggressive type of breast cancer has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.  This is a new kind of medicine that helps people with this disease live longer, including my guest today, breast cancer patient Ann Wertz.  Also joining her is Dr. Robert Hermann.  Both played a part in clinical trials for the new treatment.

If you have, or know someone who has, HER2-Positive Metastic Breast Cancer, please talk to your doctor to see if this treatment is an option for you.

Stay healthy!
