The Middle of the Book Sucks + Crossfit Workout

There is an oft quoted writing truism that goes, “The Middle of the Book Sucks.”  See, when you first start writing a story, you’re excited just to begin.  And then you figure out the ending, and that’s pretty satisfying too.  But then you have to connect everything, and that’s where the hard work drudgery comes in.

Why am I thinking about this?  Because I’m looking through my Bible study/Crossfit notes and came across something said in class, which was, “Whatever your weight right now, whatever you look like, just remember to love yourself.  You are exactly where God wants you to be.”

In life you never really know when you are in the middle of the story, or how it will end, but you sure are aware when it sucks!  That’s when it’s helpful to remind yourself that God has a plan for you, and this difficult time you are going through might be in preparation for something bigger and better in your life.

Example:  In the story of Joseph (as in, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,)  Joseph is beaten up and sold into slavery by his brothers (nice!) and betrayed by his master’s wife after he won’t sleep with her and he suffers miserably in prison without God intervening.  (See?  The middle of the story sucks!)  He remains faithful to God and while in prison gets connected to the Pharaoh by interpreting his dreams,  and then he ends up becoming the second most powerful man in Egypt.   Just think: if he hadn’t been in prison he would not have met the people to connect him to the king; so you never know how your trials and tribulations will ultimately help you.  Or help others.

A few months ago I don’t know if I was in the middle of my life story but I sure was in the middle of a midlife crisis.  Overweight, business failing, marriage on the rocks.  But I said the simplest of prayers, “Please help me, God,” and got through it.

So maybe the plan was to show another mom trolling the web that if I can be an overweight, middle-aged, mom of two and manage to get healthy by making better choices maybe she can too.  Of course she can too.

The class was followed by a Crossfit workout because my church is following another oft quoted truism, “Keep Austin Weird.”  Here is the workout:

Crossfit Workout

Super-set 1  (All exercises done for about 2-4 minutes)

Mountain climbers. almostprettyfit.blogspot.com

  • Suicide sprints.  (You would think in a church group they might rename this to Jogging for Jesus or something…)
  • Squats
  • Push ups
  • Mountain Climbers
  • High Skips

Super-set 2  (All exercises done for about 2-4 minutes)

  • Squat jumps
  • Push ups into side planks
  • Bicycle crunches
  • Ice skaters
Body Rows. crossfitbeaufort.com

Super-set 3  (All exercises done for about 2-4 minutes)

  • Reverse lunges (lunge jumps if you want to make it harder)
  • Body rows
  • Ab leg drops
  • Suicide sprints

In general, crossfit training combines upper body and lower body strength work with core exercises and cardio to give your body an overall workout.   It’s pretty fun, actually.
